Beached whale is latest tragedy for Breezy Point, Queens
12/27/2012Residents of the Breezy Point neighborhood in Queens must again be asking themselves: What next? The New York City neighborhood, hit harder than any other during Superstorm Sandy, today have been coping with an incredibly unlikely visitor on its shoreline: a beached whale. Rescue teams are racing to return the whale to the sea before it's crushed by its own weight or becomes dehydrated. Beachcombers who discovered the whale threw buckets of water over it until a pump system could be set up: "There was so much tragedy and disaster this year, we just want something to live and survive," said an onlooker.
