Bears can apparently count how many people they maul

Take one bear, add a tablet computer, and what do you get? Arithmetic. The adorable-but-dangerous creatures have had a whack at technology, and they've thrilled researchers with their counting skills. A trio of captive bears completed a series of number-based tests on a touch-screen computer to impressive results.

Maybe we shouldn't be so surprised: Bears do have the largest relative brain size of any carnivore. "This is the first published work with bears working on a touch screen," says research leader Jennifer Vonk. "It hasn't been done with any large carnivores." We'd like to see lions have a swipe next.
