Believe it or not, Lincoln didn't invent Facebook

Oh, Internet, you're so gullible. When blogger Nate St. Pierre posted a fascinating, colorful story Tuesday about discovering, on his day off, that Abraham Lincoln had come up with the concept of Facebook long before Mark Zuckerberg, the rumor spread like wildfire. Several news sources picked it up, including one that led with the line "You can't make this stuff up, folks." Um, actually, you can, and St. Pierre had. Once a few fact-seeking reporters came sniffing around, St. Pierre, a serial prankster, finally came clean. "The original story is 100 percent fabricated," he explained. It's also 100 percent hilarious -- as long as you're not one of the overly trusting outlets that ran with it.
