World's oldest living person gets older, reveals secret to longevity
8/27/2012Here’s hoping Besse Cooper had a cake big enough for all her candles. Cooper, a former Georgia schoolteacher who is officially the world’s oldest living person, is now even older. She celebrated her 116th birthday Sunday. Though unable to attend the ribbon cutting for a bridge named in her honor, Cooper, only the eighth person in the world and fourth American to reach age 116, was spry enough to quip: “I’m glad I gave them a reason to name it.” Asked the secret to her longevity, Cooper replied, “I mind my own business -- and I don’t eat junk food.” So maybe no cake at all then.
