RIP: World's oldest person dies aged 116

12/5/2012

Besse Cooper, recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest living person, has "died peacefully" in her Monroe, Ga., nursing home after notching up an impressive 116 years. Bessie's son Sidney Cooper said she spent Tuesday having her hair set and watching a Christmas video. She was then put on oxygen after she had trouble breathing, and died at around 2 p.m. Bessie was declared the world's oldest person in January before being briefly stripped of the title in May when Guinness discovered a slightly older woman. Besse was again pronounced the oldest person in the world when that woman died in June. Guinness claims the world's oldest person is now 115-year-old Dina Manfredini, of Johnston, Iowa. [Source]
