Red states are often stuck with comments about their Republican-leaning voting records connected to a supposedly less-educated population — the implication being that dumb states lean right. However, a lot of those states are getting the last laugh on Friday: In the latest evaluation of public schools by the respected trade journal Education Week, several traditionally red states, including Kentucky, West Virginia, Arkansas, Florida and Georgia are succeeding where other states are failing. Although Maryland again claimed the top spot, these five states are all in Education Week's public-school top 10 list. The nation's overall grade, meanwhile, climbed from a C to a C+. [Source]
