Beverly Hills opposes subway, but not because of poor people

Los Angeles’ long-planned, much-delayed subway line — the Subway to the Sea — from downtown to the Pacific Ocean has encountered many roadblocks over the years, but now it faces its most formidable foe: wealth and privilege. The city of Beverly Hills is seeking a court order to stop construction of a tunnel under Beverly Hills High School. Beverly Hills cites safety concerns and a disruption of their $120 million renovation of the school. Backers of the line said it was yet another example of Beverly Hills’ opposition to the plan, which they say is the tony city’s aversion to having ordinary po' folks cross their borders. [Source]
