Watch big cats gruesomely tear apart innocent watermelons

8/13/2012

If you can't stomach the gory sight of a melon's pink, fleshy insides being ripped apart, look away now. It turns out that the lions, tigers, leopards and cougars (oh my!) that reside at the Big Cat Rescue sanctuary in Tampa, Fla., are as fond of using those claws and teeth on melons as they are on antelopes. (Actually, the most horrifying thing about this video isn't the feline-on-fruit violence — it's the cheesy elevator muzak soundtrack.) It shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that big cats are so into watermelon — the fruit has a lot of unexpected fans, such as slow-motion filmmakers and weird soda connoisseurs.
