Bird dog follows her nose to reunite cockatiel with owner

It's a good thing that Bella, a 2-year-old German shorthair, has a nose for birds and her owner, Dave Madden, has a nose for news. When Zoey, a 6-year-old cockatiel, flew out an open door at the Montana home of Debbie and Karri Zuidima, the women embarked on a frantic, fruitless search before resorting to a classified ad, posters and Facebook alerts. Meanwhile, Bella was on one of her daily outings when she took point on a bird that didn't flush. That allowed Madden to scoop it up, but it wasn't until he saw the newspaper ad days later that he was able to complete the reunion and make the cockatiel's owners as "happy as a clam at high tide," as he said.
