Big dead bluefin tuna auctioned for $1.8 million1/5/2013
Under what circumstances would you buy a dead 489-pound fish? Think about all the logistics involved with just walking away with such a prize: a truck, a lever and pully system, buckets and buckets of ice. Not to mention the fact that it costs $1.8 million. That’s how much a single bluefin tuna, weighing almost 500 pounds, fetched at an auction in Tokyo. The buyer owns a sushi restaurant chain and said he had made the staggering bid in part to "encourage Japan." Japan consumes more than half the world’s bluefin tuna catch. [Source]
