Curious whales get way too close to California paddlers

It was just another sunny Saturday in San Luis Obispo, Calif., until a pod of humpback whales made this spellbinding appearance. If it weren’t for the stunned expressions on the onlookers’ faces in the three photos above, we’d think wildlife photographer Bill Bouton had employed some serious Photoshopping wizardry to these pix, but Bouton, a retired biology teacher says he was just lamenting the lack of wildlife when the whales decided to put on a show. “I was sitting in my car, parked along the shoulder of the road overlooking the beach,” writes Bouton. Federal law might stipulate that people keep 100 yards away from whales, but is there a law about how close whales can come to people? [Source]
