If you watched any of Bob Barker's 250-year run as the host of "The Price Is Right," you know that the man loves animals. But his affections aren't limited to the dogs and cats he urged viewers to spay or neuter: The 89-year-old just spent almost $1 million to bring three former zoo elephants from Canada to a California animal sanctuary. Thanks to Barker's efforts and generosity, the female African elephants are getting settled into their new home at the Performing Animal Welfare Society's Ark 2000 compound, so named because it covers 2,000 acres in Calaveras County. Counting its new additions, PAWS houses 11 elephants that have been rescued from zoos or circuses (many believe those places aren't appropriate living spaces for such large animals).
"I had tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat," Barker told the Sacramento Bee after watching the elephants explore their new home. "It's hard to believe they are finally here." [Source]
