Bobby Jindal supports over-the-counter birth control12/15/2012
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is what one might call a hard-right Republican. A conservative’s conservative. So how jarring it was to see Jindal, who is a pro-life Catholic, advocate in an op-ed piece published Thursday in the Wall Street Journal for birth control medication to be made widely available over-the-counter. His argument was rooted in small-government rhetoric (that government shouldn’t be involved in private matters) and free-market principles (companies would have to slash prices in an open marketplace) rather than a sudden embrace of feminist principles. Still, the piece did lead to the unlikely scenario of Planned Parenthood backing his opinion. [Source]
