Bouncers get flak for making partiers verify ID on Facebook
5/5/2012A new privacy debate is under way in the U.K. as bouncers have been asking club-goers and partiers to log in to their Facebook accounts to verify their IDs. A campaign group has voiced upset over incidents where bar patrons were told to access their smartphones and display their personal profiles to get in to various clubs. "It's an affront to the basic rights of people to be able to live their lives in private," said Nick Pickles, of Big Brother Watch. Yet bouncers lashed back, saying high-quality fake IDs are common and the hefty fines for letting in underage patrons fall on their shoulders.
Is this a fair practice or a violation of privacy?
