Boy finds WWII bomb on first outing with his new metal detector

12/31/2012

Reason No. 6,294 why living in Europe is more interesting: Metal detectors are far more likely to find awesome stuff. While soon-to-be-disinterested kids in the U.S. are finding bottle caps and a grand total of $0.27, 7-year-old Sonny Cater unearthed a 10-pound World War II practice bomb head on his first outing with his Christmas present in Norfolk on the east coast of England. The bomb, which still contained wiring but fortunately no explosives, was promptly picked up and disposed of by the Royal Air Force. Sonny presumably intends to set out again in search of more treasure. After all, some of the Russian crown jewels are still missing. [Source]
