First grader suspended for pointing his finger like a gun
1/3/2013The parents of a 6-year-old Maryland boy are fighting his one-day suspension, which was handed down from school officials after the elementary school student pointed a finger like a gun and said, "Pow." The suspension came a week after the Newtown shooting, and the boy’s parents are trying to get the punishment removed from his permanent record because they’re concerned about its long-term effects. A lawyer for the family argued that the boy said he "was playing." However, a Montgomery County schools spokesman said the suspension was "not a kneejerk reaction to a single incident" and that the schools don't discipline young children without discussing their actions with them first.
