Today's Olympic lesson: Don't bring your bronze medal into the shower

7/30/2012

This is why you can't have nice things, Brazil. Or at least one of your Olympians can't. Judo athlete Felipe Kitadai, who won the bronze medal in the men's 60-kilogram competition on Saturday, apparently thought his shiny new badge of honor needed a deep cleaning, so he brought it into the shower after his win, fumbled with it while trying to keep it from getting wet, then dropped it on the floor, breaking the string and denting the medal. The Brazilian Olympic Committee is requesting a new one for the hapless Kitadai, though the International Olympic Committee doesn't have to oblige. What did Kitadai think it was, the Stanley Cup?
