Brazilian docs treat the poor to free Botox
3/23/2012In Brazil, where a quarter of the population lives below the poverty line, some doctors are offering free beauty treatments to the poor. According to the Associated Press, over 220 plastic surgery clinics offer complementary Botox, chemical peels and cellulite treatments to the needy because, they say, "Beauty is a right and the poor deserve to be ravishing, too." Dr. Nelson Rosas, the founder of the Brazilian Society of Aesthetic Medicine, estimates that his Rio office has performed over 14,000 free procedures. "We're actually treating something very important," he said. "The patient's self-esteem."
Is Brazil's approach charitable or crazy?
