Cranky pol urges Ravens to muzzle player supporting gay marriage

9/7/2012

Emmett C. Burns is a Baptist minister and a staunch opponent of same-sex marriage. He's also a four-term member of Maryland's House of Delegates, so you'd think he'd know better than to try to silence anyone from speaking out on an issue. But the 72-year-old Democrat sent a stinging letter to Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Biscotti suggesting linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo be "ordered to cease and desist" making public remarks in support of gay marriage. Ayanbadejo was restrained in his reaction, noting that he should thank Burns for bringing attention to the subject and adding "whoever voted for (Burns) has their right to vote for who they believe represents their values." Wow, does that kind of reason have any place in modern politics? [Source]
