War hero, quadruple amputee makes history with double arm transplant

1/29/2013

A young war vet has made history as the first soldier to receive a rare double arm transplant. Rather than using prosthetics, Brendan Marrocco, 26, will now experience real arms again, which may someday feel like his own. Only six other people in America have ever undergone the double-limb operation, which docs say is extremely complicated medically, psychologically and logistically. The former U.S. Army soldier's life was changed on Easter Sunday, 2009, when a bomb in Iraq tore all four limbs from his body. [Source]
