Man somehow survives bout of bubonic plague

7/19/2012

Today’s installment of WTF involves an Oregon man who got a case of the bubonic plague, and now may have his blackened, gangrenous fingers and toes removed. All because he tried to save a choking cat. WTF, right? Last month, Paul Gaylord saw a stray cat he’d taken in choking on a mouse. When he and a friend attempted to remove the mouse, the cat bit him. Gaylord came down with a fever, and several hospital visits later, it was determined Gaylord had not just bubonic plague, but septicemic, as well. At one point on life support, he’s expected to survive. [Source]
