Building a Wright-designed doghouse was a 'nightmare'
3/12/2012Frank Lloyd Wright designed hundreds of buildings in his 91 years, including such funky architectural icons as Fallingwater and the Guggenheim. Word is now coming out that the master also dabbled in ... doghouses. The AP reports that in 1956, when Jim Berger was 12 and Wright was designing his family's house, he asked the famed architect to sketch out a home for his black Lab, Eddie. Wright put him off but eventually delivered the designs at no charge. Berger, a cabinetmaker, rebuilt the doggie domicile last year for a new documentary, "Romanza," and said it was a "nightmare" to construct. Sorry, Frank.
