Company releases bulletproof whiteboards for schools

1/25/2013

It's better to have a bulletproof whiteboard and not need it, than need one, and not have it. Developed for schools by Maryland-based armor manufacturer Hardwire Armor Systems, their whiteboards work just like regular ones — except they can take a bullet. Measuring 18-by-20 inches and weighing 3.75 pounds, they are fitted with strap handles at the back and will absorb handgun and shotgun rounds. Hardwire CEO George Tunis described the "bullet sponges" as "a last line of defense … not something you go into the hallway with." At around $299 each, they're much cheaper than hiring an armed guard, he says. [Source]
