Remorseful burglar returns stolen items, leaves apology letter

8/3/2012

A life of crime isn't for everyone. A family in Canada that didn't even know their house had been burglarized awoke last Friday morning to a plastic bag left on their porch full of not only the returned items, but a letter of apology and $50 to repair a screen the thief had cut to break into their home. In the typed note, the burglar cited falling on hard times as the reason for the invasion and said it "was nothing personal" and that "I made the worst mistake of my life.” The note also said the perp was committing to 15 hours of community service to quiet his or her guilty conscience. [Source]
