Serial burglars target the homes of Facebook vacation boasters
9/21/2012Hot tip for those who insist on leaving their Facebook profile open for all to see: That vacation boasting might result in your unattended home being relieved of its valuables. Police in Portland, Ore., arrested Roseanne McCausland, 28, and Thomas Phelps, 38, in connection with several burglaries of houses whose owners were described by police as "high-end." Investigators say the serial burglars had stolen more than $100,000 worth of property, including four cars from the homes. One victim suspects the thieves had seen her daughter's Facebook post that said they were out of town. Police suggested people should make sure their Facebook and Twitter accounts are set to private "so strangers cannot view them." Alternatively, you could just not gloat about being on vacation.
