Bakery shut down for putting tasty sugar and fat in diet muffins

3/15/2013

The FDA has shut down The Butterfly Bakery in New Jersey for sweetening their sugar-free delights with sugar. An investigation found some of the bakery's "sugar-free" products were anything but, and that the snacks hid more fat than the labels indicated. The No Sugar Added Blueberry Muffin was a delicious-tasting culprit, with a saturated fat content 360 percent more than what was indicated on the label. The bakery's Sugar Free Double Chocolate Chip Muffin was also a well-meaning dieter's nightmare, with 444 percent more saturated fat than labeled. As one commenter poignantly observed of a photo of the No Sugar Added Blueberry Muffin on the bakery's Facebook page, "Yeah, right!!!" [Source]
