X Games snowmobiler dies from brain injuries, internal bleeding
1/31/2013The debate over athlete safety at the X Games will likely ramp up with Thursday's death of Caleb Moore, the 25-year-old freestyle snowmobiler whose sled crashed and rolled over him as he attempted a backflip last week in Aspen, Colo. It's the first death in the 18-year history of the ESPN-produced event, but accidents seem to be accelerating as competitors up the difficulty of their stunts. Moore's brother, Colten, crashed on that very same night and separated his pelvis, and two slopestyle skiers also suffered grisly injuries during the event. ESPN said it would review the snowmobiling safety issues but added that "when the world's best compete at the highest level in any sport, risks remain." [Source]
