Sex-ed class insists STDs can be prevented with sleep, self-respect

8/22/2012

Respecting yourself and getting plenty of sleep are important, but can they prevent STDs? That's what one California school district is teaching its students, and now it's being sued by angry parents. The textbook that's used in Clovis High School's sex-ed class supposedly doesn't mention condoms at all. Instead, students are given such handy contraceptive alternatives as "respect yourself," "get plenty of rest" and "avoid sexual activity until marriage." Other reading materials used in the class allegedly compare nonvirgin women to dirty shoes and say that men can't stop themselves once they get sexually aroused. That's just plain crazy — unless they’re getting "legitimate sleep," in which case, who knows? [Source]
