With this setup, a remix of 'Call Me Maybe' is just a heartbeat away
11/18/2012"Nerd chicks? Call me, definitely." Computer programmer Ryan Challinor asked a simple question: Could a heartbeat be used to control the tempo of Cary Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe"? So this genius did what any of us would do for Music Hack Day at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He rigged a webcam to a heart rate monitor watch, wrote software to recognize the watch’s digits, then wrote more software to translate those digits into a playback speed in his media player. Throw on "Call Me Maybe," and it sounds like slow, sludgy doom metal, or super-speed hardcore rave music, depending on how many jumping jacks he does.
