2/3/2013If you've spent years forgoing your favorite treats and exerting dietary nerves of steel as you count calories, you might not want to read this, unless you're OK with hearing that was probably a waste of time. A new report argues nutrition labels and restaurant menu tallies are inaccurate, rendering all those calorie-counting diets essentially a load of hogwash. Experts are now saying they think food preparation — pounding, dicing, mashing and maybe even chewing — changes the number of calories people consume, yet the current, 100-year-old model for arriving at calorie counts doesn’t factor these variables in. They say a complete overhaul of the calorie count system is needed, but in the meantime, there's always mummy poop. [Source]
