Canines' canines adorn what may be world's oldest purse

6/29/2012

What may be the world's oldest purse has been unearthed near Leipzig, Germany, and it's pretty flashy. More of a hobo than a clutch, the ancient accessory is decorated with rows of dog teeth, which adorned what archaeologists believe was the (now disintegrated) outer flap of the purse.

The toothy tote was buried in a grave dated between 2500 and 2200 B.C. Dog teeth during this time were apparently a must-have ornament for men and women, suggesting dogs may have been used much like livestock (not cool!) before they became man's best friends. Perhaps prehistoric proto-PETA protestors were involved?
