Woman doused with lye blessed with superhuman optimism

Five years ago, Carmen Tarleton's ex-husband broke into her Vermont home, beat her with a baseball bat and doused her in industrial-strength lye, melting her features and causing what doctors called "the most horrific injury a human being could suffer." But the 44-year-old says she wouldn't go back even if she could. She's written a book called "Overcome: Burned, Blinded and Blessed," coming out in March, and says, "When life gives you a big negative situation like I'd been through, if you can get through that, you can really find all of the blessings and all of the positive things."
