Woman doused with lye blessed with superhuman optimism
12/3/2012Five years ago, Carmen Tarleton's ex-husband broke into her Vermont home, beat her with a baseball bat and doused her in industrial-strength lye, melting her features and causing what doctors called "the most horrific injury a human being could suffer." But the 44-year-old says she wouldn't go back even if she could. She's written a book called "Overcome: Burned, Blinded and Blessed," coming out in March, and says, "When life gives you a big negative situation like I'd been through, if you can get through that, you can really find all of the blessings and all of the positive things." Tarleton has undergone 50 surgeries and is now awaiting a face transplant. [Source]
