Dear medical science: We appreciate all you do for us. Really. But, seriously, y’all, can you stop scaring the crap out of us with all those OMG LATEST SUPERBUG THAT WILL ANNIHILATE US ALL warnings? It’s really starting to unnerve us. For instance, this latest news that a rare, potentially fatal superbug that is resistant to nearly all antibiotics is spreading across the U.S. Cases of some kinds of CRE — Carbapenem-resistant enterobacteriaceae — have doubled, causing the government to issue warnings to hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare providers. CRE usually hit people who are ill, need equipment like ventilators or catheters or are long-time users of antibiotics. We don't fit the profile, but still ... we’re never leaving the house again.
