Catcher whines that umpire took away throwing 'privilege'
5/31/2012Catching the ball is only part of what Yankees catcher Russell Martin does. He also throws it back to the pitcher ... or at least he did, until umpire Laz Diaz "punished" him for arguing calls by not allowing him to throw the ball back to the mound after fouls. "He told me I had to earn the privilege," Martin claimed. "Even at the end of the game ... he's still like 'no.'" The All-Star backstop says that umpires typically let him wing it back, and it keeps his arm loose. Diaz was not available to respond to Martin's allegations. "Laz Diaz is a d**k," Martin yelled in the clubhouse after the game. "Write it hard." Maybe you should, Russell. It'll keep your arm loose.
Do you think Martin was really punished?
