Nursing home resident had 57 maggots removed from her ear
12/4/2012An elderly woman suffering from Alzheimer’s had a nursing home experience that left her family buzzing mad. The family of 92-year-old Catherine McCann is suing the Lutheran Home for the Aged in Arlington Heights, Ill., after doctors discovered and removed 57 maggots from her ear. Maggots. In. Her. Ear. What did you say? McCann's family alleges that a fly flew into her ear canal and laid eggs, which were only discovered after McCann — who can’t speak — tugged on her ear to let her husband know. McCann’s family was understandably distressed and disgusted, with her irate husband noting that he had paid the home $270,000 to care for his wife. [Source]
