Give a cow some beer, get some good-tasting beef

12/28/2012

So now we know what happens when hay is combined with award-winning beer: some of the juiciest beef in America. The T Kobe cattle ranch in Wallis, Texas, has revealed that a drop of beer, provided by the Saint Arnold Brewing Co., is added to the hay its cows eat. Ranch owner Gene Terry claims it helps improve the flavor and texture of the beef because the yeast in a double IPA helps the cow's digestion system. Terry follows a method of herding developed in Japan that includes feeding beer to cattle to achieve an ideal flavor. But don't pour beer on your beef at the dinner table. That's just silly.
