Old lady wants money for hilariously terrible 'Ecce Homo' restoration

9/20/2012

The botched restoration of "Ecce Homo," a century-old mural by painter Elías García Martínez, has turned the Spanish church that houses the painting of Jesus into a tourist attraction. There are so many visitors flocking to Santuario de Misericordia, the foundation that owns it has started charging a fee to gawk at the artwork, which was ruined (or improved, depending on how you look at it) by elderly local Cecilia Giménez. Now Giménez has reportedly lawyered up, believing her creation entitles her to a slice of those tourism profits. Fingers crossed she doesn't also plan to go after the thousands of Internet users who turned "Ecce Homo" into one of 2012's funniest memes. [Source]
