Charging chimp terrifies kids at San Francisco Zoo

5/25/2012

Chimpanzees kind of look like hairy children, making it easy to forget they can be dangerous killing machines. It's a lesson two actual children learned on a recent visit to San Francisco Zoo. A chimp, seemingly fed up with the attention it's getting from the kids banging on its enclosure wall launches itself at the startled young ones. "Where'd the monkey go?" asks the youngsters' laughing minder (Note: chimps are actually apes, not monkeys). That's when things get terrifying - thank goodness for the thick glass wall separating the chimp from the children.
