France preemptively freaks out over naked Muhammad cartoon

9/19/2012

France has announced that it will close 20 embassies in Muslim countries, fearing an angry, violent backlash to (sigh) another cartoon. The latest issue of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo hit newsstands today, complete with a back-page drawing of a naked Prophet Muhammad. Although the mag's editor has promised that the cartoon will "shock those who want to be shocked," the government has criticized their decision. "[There is] no point in such a provocation," Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said. And Charlie Hebdo knows provocation: Last November, its offices were firebombed over (double sigh) a caricature of Muhammad.  Live and don't learn, huh?  [Source]
