This art made of discarded chewed gum is gross but beautiful
2/14/2013We've always considered chewing gum to be something you enjoyed, tossed when it lost its flavor and didn't think about again. How blind we were to the creative possibilities! Not so artists Anna-Sofiya Matveeva and Ben Wilson. Each uses discarded chewing gum to create whimsical artwork, though in dramatically different ways. Wilson paints miniature images on gum splotches he finds on pavements, aiming to "turn something some people would find disgusting into something artistic and beautiful." Matveeva, meanwhile, creates large portraits of luminaries such as Steve Jobs and Elton John using up to 1,000 pieces of chewed gum donated by acquaintances. She says they symbolize the way we all contribute to making a celebrity. Chew that one over as you click through these images. [Source]
