Chicago considers ban on energy drinks high in caffeine
1/18/2013The city of Chicago of is considering a blanket ban on heart-thumping energy drinks. According to an ordinance tabled by Alderman Edward Burke, the ban would apply to any drinks containing 180 milligrams of caffeine or more and containing taurine or guarana. A 16-ounce can of Full Throttle, along with the many other drinks that exceed the threshold, would attract fines of between $100 and $500. However, those who like to go out with a bang can rest assured the ban would not apply to a standard can of Red Bull — and there's no law stopping you butt-chugging 10 of those bad boys on your way to the hospital.
