China: 'Either visit your parents, or lawyer up'
12/29/2012“Give me face-time, or get a subpoena.” That’s an ultimatum that China’s elderly can now deliver, after the country’s legislature mandated today that adult children visit their aged parents "often," or risk being sued. The law does not specify exactly how frequently such visits must happen, but was passed after a rise in reported cases of older parents being abandoned or neglected by grown-up children. So stuff the grandchchildren in the minivan, China, and go see grandma. Pronto. We know her guilt trips are horrible. But guilt trips with the force of law? Truly unbearable. [Source]
