Wonderful chocolate is a tasty treatment for winter coughs

12/10/2012

New U.K. research shows chocolate is an effective treatment for chronic coughs. Researchers with the Hull Cough Clinic looked at 300 patients with a nagging hack and found that 60 percent of them enjoyed relief when administered theobromine, a compound naturally present in cocoa. Those in the study were given 1,000mg of theobromine, equivalent to just over two ounces of unsweetened dark, or 16 ounces of milk chocolate. An earlier study by London's National Heart and Lung Institute showed that theobromine was a more effective cough suppressant than codeine. So, what better way to keep a cough at bay over winter? You're going to get fat anyway. [Source]
