Scary Australian wildfires look intense from space

1/9/2013

Can't get a grip on the enormity of the wildfires burning in Australia? Take a look at these jaw-dropping photos snapped by Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield from his perch aboard NASA's International Space Station. Terrifying? Yes. Disturbing? Absolutely. They're just three of a zillion pics the camera-happy, guitar-playing commander has shot and shared with his adoring public. Luckily for Hadfield, he can't feel the heat from way up there, unlike the Tasmanian couple and their five grandchildren who took shelter from the flames under a jetty in the sea. We suspect they would have preferred to see the spooky plumes from outer space. [Source]
