No girls allowed: Church of England rejects female bishops

11/20/2012

The Bishop Boys Club continues at the Church of England, which today narrowly rejected a plan to allow women to be bishops. The change easily passed the House of Bishops and House of Clergy, but fell just six votes short in the third chamber it needed to pass, the House of Laity. Church chief Rowan Williams spoke of his "deep personal sadness" at the outcome. According to church rules, it will be five years before a re-vote can be held. But comedian Ricky Gervais had another suggestion, posting, "The queen should do an episode of undercover boss where she tries to get a job as a bishop in that Church of England she's in charge of."
