Clip shows Volkswagen's amazing hover car concept
5/9/2012Volkswagen may have one-upped Google's recent unveil of self-driving cars with this video of a hovercar concept from the Beijing Auto Show. The video is in Chinese and without English subtitles, so we'll give you a quick idea of what's going on: The zero-emissions vehicle uses electromagnetic levitation, via a grid installed under the road, to float above the ground. The pod-shaped vehicle seats two and is controlled via joystick to go forwards, backwards, side-to-side -- even spin directly on its own axis. The concept vehicle was designed as part of the "People's Car Challenge," which crowd-sourced new vehicle ideas from some 33,000,000 visitors to the project's website.
