Colin Powell says the GOP contains 'a dark vein of intolerance'
1/14/2013Colin Powell is giving the GOP some harsh medicine when it comes to its handling of racial issues. The ex-secretary of state appeared on NBC's "Meet the Press" this morning and criticized the "dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party." He believes some Republicans "still sort of look down on minorities" and singled out two high-profile GOP leaders for particular criticism. Sarah Palin's description of President Obama as "shuckin' and jivin'" was, to Powell, "a racial-era slave term." He also felt ex-GOP governor John Sununu's description of the president as "lazy" came uncomfortably close to a racist stereotype. [Source]
