College student's run for class president gets FBI attention

4/21/2012

Matt Weaver, a college junior, hacker and editor of his school's outrageous underground newspaper, has hit a snag in his run for class president at California State San Marcos. No, he's not being antagonized by a stuffy dean; he's currently being investigated by the FBI. University officials believe Weaver hacked 700 user IDs and passwords to steal his election with "a device" that would alter voting results. He's already been arrested on charges of identity theft and suspicion of election fraud. The FBI has now taken up the case for reasons undisclosed, with one special agent coyly revealing they're looking into "violations of federal laws." Thanks for the clarification; our first guess would've been that the FBI was considering a "Real Genius" remake.
