Comfort dogs deployed to help those affected by Sandy Hook
12/17/2012Lutheran Church Charities has sent a team of golden retrievers to Newtown, Conn., to offer comfort in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre. The comfort dogs, including Chewie, Ruthie and Luther, arrived in Newtown late Saturday night and were present at the vigil at Newtown High School on Sunday evening attended by President Obama. Residents can pet the dogs or talk and pray with the dogs' handlers, and organizers say the dogs are helping even those without children at Sandy Hook Elementary. “Dogs are non-judgmental. They are loving. They are accepting of anyone. It creates the atmosphere for people to share," said Lutheran Church Charities president Tim Hetzner. [Source]
