Community college grads outearning peeps with fancy BAs

2/27/2013

Just finished shelling out for that snazzy $160K, four-year college degree? Congratulations! Here's the bad news: 30 percent of Americans with two-year community college degrees are outearning those with four-year BAs, according to Georgetown University's Center on Education and the Workforce. On average, community college grads snag higher starting salaries, and to add insult to injury, they probably paid about $6,000 for their entire education. Think about it: You only need an associate degree to become an air traffic controller raking in $113K or a dental hygienist taking home $70K. But before you stuff that framed degree into the trash, experts say folks with BAs can eventually catch up — so just tell your community college buddies you'll pay them back for the beer ... maybe ... sometime.
